Recently I went to i-Beauty Medispa that is located at Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, Block 302 and tried the floatation therapy in a float pod.
You might have or might have not heard about this float pod therapy. If you have not heard about it before, this therapy actually has its own benefits that have been researched by professionals.
Research consistently demonstrates that floatation therapy has a significant impact on mood enhancement. Suggested reasons for this increased level of happiness include elevated levels of dopamine and endorphins, through to the deep meditative state achieved during floatation therapy.
It supports meditation as a means for lowering blood pressure, easing symptoms of anxiety and depression, and shows that meditating causes activity in parts of the brain associated with attention and decreases activity in the amygdala.
The latest floatation therapy research shows that during floatation, the amygdala basically shuts off, ‘turning down’ anxiety in the brain. The more you float, the better you get at achieving this state. This therapy delivers the deepest of meditative states to those who are not experts in meditation, so that everyone can enjoy the benefits.
Floatation can specifically be used to target pain and trauma, it can also be used during pregnancy and helps with chronic migraines.
When I personally tried the therapy, this is something very new to me and I have no prior experiences being in a water for such a long period. And yes, I can’t swim, which during the first session I was honestly afraid, but it probably took me 10 mins to chill down and get rid of the anxiety I had because I can’t swim.
I would like to share that, for people like me that can’t swim, would be very afraid of water because we can’t swim and there would be a chance drowning. Which in this case, after awhile I was totally relaxed because I am convinced that I wouldn’t drown and will be floating throughout the whole session.
What was in the float pod that allows me to float? It’s the high concentration of salts in it, that produces an anti-gravity floating on the body. And I am sure, you heard about the Dead Sea, which would allow us to float because of the high concentration of salt, right?
During the process I do actually feel nauseous, I believe some of you may experience this too but it is completely normal. Just get out of the tank if you couldn’t take it.
1 hour of the session in the pod is equivalent to 4hrs of deep, restful REM sleep.
1 hour of the session has the same detoxification prowess as a 4 day fast.
1 hour of the session releases large amounts of the happy hormone: endorphins
1 hour of the session of floating reduces our blood pressure, pulse/heart rate, cortisol levels, lactic-acid build-up and oxygen consumption.
Simply put, floating calms our overly stimulated systems and restores the body’s chemical and metabolic balance.
As you can see, after the session being in water for so long you would expect your hands to be a little wrinkled but in this case it did not happen at all.
What I love most during the float pod is that I have very oily hair, and after that day, my hair became really smooth and doesn’t oiled as much. That was honestly what I realized after the floating, which I love it!
After which my boyfriend also joined during the second session of floating + acu-meridian therapy.
Acu-meridian therapy, fuses nanotechnology with far-infrared and electromagnetic therapy to “unblock” the 12 major meridiens of the human body. In TCM, every Meridien plays an important role in the healthy functioning of our organs.
The effects of this therapy last for the next 24 hours after every treatment, in which, it helps to dispell toxic gases, wind, pains/aches, has an anti-inflammatory effect, accelerates the regeneration of cells and raise our body’s basal temperature.
